The Shepherd’s Path
Posted February 23, 07 by AlBaraaThe way of the shepherd is not necessarily an easy one, but what lies at the end of the path is surely worth the pain.
I was requested to make a trailer for the upcoming seerah seminar that will be taught in Toronto conducted by AlMaghrib. The request came, only less than a week before I was to leave for hajj. My computer was in limbo at the moment (recovering from a system crash), so I attempted to make it on the house PC (not the best computer for editing). To my luck I ended up losing the project file.
Upon returning from my trip, I took another stab at it. Got about halfway done, only to have my hard drive crash on me! This brought me back to square one. If it wasn’t for one of the Toronto city coordinators I probably wouldn’t have finished the project.
Getting myself together, and spending about 15 hours on the audio track, throwing different video clips and and images together…I ended up with this:
Video not working? Try Google Video
Lessons:
- When you setup a backup schedule for your hard drive, make sure you activate it.
- Before embarking on a project, make sure you have someone hounding you to get it done! (In an encouraging manner that is)

Assalamu alaykum
Your trailer made our day! We Toronto volunteers have been working hard and on the eve of the promo weekend to get the trailer just in time - was a real treat. The 1st promo audience of the day even got to see the trailer.
jazakumullahu khayra for your persistence

Bro, your work on this project is absolutely phenomenal!
I just happened to come across the link to it and I must say I am really impressed. Please keep up the great work.
Just a question - I’m learning videography myself, where’d you get such amazing stock footage from?
I know you mentioned Corbis for pictures (try http://www.sxc.hu btw, its great and its free!), but is there such a site for video)
Also, your website is intriguing to say the least. I love the layout.

Thanks and jazakallahu khairun for the comments.
Corbismotion.com is what I used for the stock footage, as well as footage I had laying around. The site I use for pictures is usually gettyimages.com and occationally the Stock.xng aka http://www.sxc.hu

Cool vid.
What software do you use to make the trailers? Also is it possible to use corbismotion in windows movie player?
jazakAllaah khayr.

Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 was used. As for corbismotion on Windows Movie Maker, I dont know. Give it a try. Try importing a corbis file into WMM and see what happens.

[...] I did “The Sheperd’s Path” trailer, one of the things I got out of it was a DVD video of Sensei (Muhammad Alshareef) [...]
